Reserves edged out of SPFL Reserve Challenge Cup after Ayr Utd shoot-out

  • Reserves draw 1-1 with Ayr Utd in Challenge Cup
  • Ayr take bonus point after 6-5 penalty shoot-out win
  • Dylan Henry on target again for EK

EK Reserves drew 1-1 with Ayr Utd at K-Park on Monday night, with the visitors picking up a penalty shoot-out bonus point, which edged Kilby out of the West Section.

Rudi McKenna's men got off to a great start when top-scorer Dylan Henry netted in the 8th minute to put Kilby in front, but Gabe Skeoch equalised for Ayr early in the second half.

Neither side could find a winner after a highly competitive 90 minutes in front of a healthy crowd, and it was Ayr who converted all six of their spot-kicks to win 6-5 and remain in the hunt to win the West Section and set up a final against East Sectional winners Livingston.

EK will now turn their attention back to SPFL Reserve League 2 duty when they face an away trip to East Stirling on 16th December, looking to build on their outstanding form so far that sees them in fourth spot in the table containing full-time opposition.
