Match Report

East Kilbride reach the FC United To Prevent Suicide Lowland League Cup Final, after a hard-fought battle against Broomhill.

A few familiar faces were at K-Park to watch the Semi Final tie, with the pending takeover at Broomhill – but they would leave feeling like they took a hit 'Right In The Coupon', after Neil McLaughlin's stunning winner.

The first half an hour was a dual between East Kilbride and the man between Broomhill's sticks, Stephen Barr.

Billy Owens whipped in a cross that found its way to Daniel McManus on the fifth minute, who saw his shot saved well.

Joao Victoria struck well from the edge of the box on the 15th minute, but his shot was parried into the path of Cami Elliott - who also saw his effort saved from six yards, resulting in a corner.

Elliott got on the end of the corner that was delivered to the back post, only to see his effort saved again by Broomhill's Barr.

Some nice passing play around the edge of the box saw Kilby's Neil McLaughlin brought down for a freekick on the 18th minute. Jamie Stevenson's fine effort was matched, once again by Barr.

With frustration building amongst the Broomhill players, composure was beginning to fall short, resulting in some overexerted tackles and the first yellow being shown on the 25th minute.

It would be Broomhill who would take the lead just after the half-hour mark, Conor Brennan fumbled a deep cross, which saw the ball being put into the danger area for Josh Cooper to put away a simple tap in. 0-1.

A further two bookings for Broomhill before the end of the half, with Sinnamon and Coutts being cautioned for dangerous tackles.

The second half got off to an immediate start, with Kilby being awarded a penalty after just 20 seconds, in what seemed a rather harsh handball call. Neil McLaughlin would send Barr the wrong way to make it 1-1.

Although not much goalmouth action for the duration of the half, it would continue in the same style of battles and frustrations that would see the Broomhill manager, and his assistant shown yellow cards on the hour mark.

A moment of magic from the Players' Player of the Year, Neil McLaughlin put East Kilbride into the Lowland League Cup Final, as he saw his wonderful 25-yard effort curl into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance, 2-1.

A goal fitting of winning a semi final tie, with great character and determination from the East Kilbride players to keep their composure and focus on the task at hand.

East Kilbride will play Bo'ness United in the FC United To Prevent Suicide Lowland League Cup Final on Sunday, 15th May 2022 at Ainslie Park, Edinburgh. Kick-Off 3pm.
